Education & Training

Niagara is home to two world-class educational institutions: Niagara College and Brock University.

Businesses can benefit from the excellent talent that lives within Thorold. 13.6% of city residents 25 years and older hold university certificate, diploma or degrees; 31.7% have a college or specialty training certificate or diploma; 12.8% have training beyond high school. Thorold is surrounded by an extensive infrastructure of educational services that are delivered by institutions ranging from business to university programs.

The community, Brock University and Niagara College, along with Niagara's business sector, enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship as students at each school bring what they've learned in the classroom into the world of work on internships, co-ops and in their pursuit of careers. Area companies enjoy calling on the breadth of talent of our local students to assist in research and development. The student community contributes much to Niagara's economy and both schools continue to strive to develop new programs to accommodate Niagara's emerging sectors.

Brock University offers rigorous undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, including experiential learning opportunities and one of Canada’s largest co-op programs. Their cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary programs earn multi-faceted degrees to enhance their career prospects.
Brock provides opportunities for social and academic growth with moderate class sizes in seminar settings, allowing more students to fully participate in the learning experience.

Niagara College is a leader in education and training and is one of the most enterprising colleges in Canada. Enrolment now totals over 7,500 full-time students and more than 15,000 Continuing Education registrants annually. The College offers 90 post-secondary diploma and post-graduate certificate programs, skills and apprenticeship training programs and two bachelor’s degree programs: International Commerce and Global Development and Hospitality Operations Management.

Collège Boréal is one of many colleges in the province, but one of only two francophone colleges. The college provides career-oriented education and training, which respond to the needs of students, to the community, and to society.
In 2008, Collège Boréal opened a campus on Schmon Parkway in Thorold.
The centre of access of the region of Niagara offers a vast range of services of post secondary study; employment services; services of integration to the population immigrating and of related services to the businesses and local collectives, in French.
