Infrastructure & Transportation
Talk about connections! Niagara is Canada's second busiest international border crossing and a major distribution gateway to North America and the world. Four international bridges, four airports close by, and direct access to major road, rail and seaway connections put your business within a day's drive of more than half the populations of the U.S. and Canada.

Niagara's e-business connections are equally robust; our high-speed fibre optic networks link to a new world of commerce without borders.
Make the Niagara connection.

i)    Telecommunications

The Niagara region is a critical telecommunication hub in North America. It is linked continentally and globally by high speed advanced fibre optic networks that cross the international border.

ii)    Transportation

Niagara has strong public and private sector transportation infrastructure.

Two international airports and two regional airports, all within an hour's drive.

Major corridor for rapidly expanding Canada/US trade, with four international bridges to the United States.

The planned GTA-Niagara Trade Corridor and highway upgrades (QEW/420/406), once completed, will become part of a network of north-south transportation corridors that connect the heartland of Ontario with major US industrial markets.

Major projects are currently underway to strengthen the bridge/plaza infrastructure at each of Niagara's three major border crossing points.  These projects will incorporate state-of-the-art security, clearance and customs procedures on both sides of the border

The Welland Canal, part of the St. Lawrence Seaway system, connects Niagara with international marine transport routes.

The proposed $300 million People Mover infrastructure project in the City of Niagara Falls will provide a needed transportation solution for the growing number of visitors that are drawn to the region. Investments in the Welland Canals Parkway project, regional trails and golf routes are helping to create a ‘destination’ experience for tourists.

Niagara has over 100 companies providing a full range of logistics services.

Developments in Niagara's transportation infrastructure are stimulating significant economic growth for the region. iii) Utilities

Utility services required by business and industry are available at competitive rates throughout the Niagara region. Rate structures for the various services may vary slightly from one location to another. Refer to the Niagara Profile for current rates.

Electricity: Local electric commissions purchase electricity from Ontario Power Generation and, in turn, supply power to end users. As well, Canadian Niagara Power Co. Ltd. services the Fort Erie market.

Natural Gas: Enbridge Consumers Gas is the sole distributor of natural gas in the Niagara region.

Water: The Regional Municipality of Niagara supplies water to communities, which in turn provide local metering and distribution services at varying rates. The region also provides sewage treatment to the area communities.
