Regional Niagara is a special place consisting of urban centres, small towns and rural communities, the Niagara Escarpment, Niagara Falls, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, the Welland Canal and the many significant historical sites found throughout the region.
The Niagara Region has experienced vitality and growth in the past few years, progress that is visible when you make your way through the region's twelve municipalities: from those who have settled in large downtown neighbourhoods to the young families expanding into new housing developments, to the quaint residential settings of small villages like Virgil or Jordan. As the region welcomes development, it also values and strives to preserve and create the green space that continues to attract many families. Planning downtown redevelopments, to walkable and sustainable communities is also a priority, as illustrated in projects under construction in cities across the region.
New residential developments will provide a significant number of business opportunities and growth in tax bases in the coming years. A variety of housing opportunities are available for people in all stages of life:
Warren Woods - is comprised of five different neighbourhoods and is located in Niagara Falls south of McLeod Road between Montrose and Garner Roads. The community will be an energy-efficient, “complete community” in which people will work and live. In addition to 1,500 homes (including large and small single family detached homes, townhomes, villas, condominiums and apartments, as well as a retirement care facility), the 300-acre community will have the 50-acre Warren Woods Energy Business Park (an area devoted to energy related businesses). The Niagara Square shopping mall will be at the centre of the development. The development will also feature a residents’ club and fitness centre and is located near the MacBain Community Centre, Heartland Family Retreat, the Carolinean Forest preserve, and more. The QEW-McLeod Road business node is nearby to accommodate residents’ needs. Visit Site
Rolling Meadows - This 1,000-acre development cornered by Highways 20 and 58 will incorporate more than 300 acres of green space. Rolling Meadows Land Development Corporation broke ground in summer 2010. On completion, 3,500 residences will fill the subdivision, room enough for 10,000 people.
Merritt Meadows - Three hundred residential units will be built and almost 2.5 acres of park land will be contained within this subdivision located on the south side of Merritt Road between Merrittville Highway and Highway 406. The development has been draft plan approved and is currently in the process of satisfying draft plan conditions.
Confederation Heights Phases 4 and 5 - More than 400 residential units will abut Highway 406 to the west, Highway 58 to the north and Richmond Street to the east. Ten acres has been reserved for protected woodlot and a block of land has been identified as a potential future school. The fourth phase is also known as Rosehaven Homes Phase 1.
