The NHS has over 900 hospital beds, 4,136 employees, approximately 553 physicians and over 1,100 volunteers, with an annual operating budget of approximately $390 million to serve a large cross section of medical needs.
Care is provided through seven sites that include:
Douglas Memorial Site in Fort Erie
Greater Niagara General Site in Niagara Falls
Niagara-on-the-Lake Site
Ontario Street Site in St. Catharines
Port Colborne Site
St. Catharines General Site
Welland Hospital Site
For supplementary care, there are a number of community and continuing care facilities, specialists, dentists, alternative health services, fitness, eye care and pharmacies.
Additionally, a new hospital is under construction on Fourth Avenue in St. Catharines. Once completed, the entire region will have access to a state-of-the-art cancer centre and cardiac and mental health services. The hospital is scheduled to open in 2013.
