History Mike Weir made his living on the professional golf circuit, taking 15 professional wins across his career and winning the Masters Tournament in 2003. When he hosted the Champions dinner at Augusta National Golf Club in 2004, following his Masters win, he insisted all of the wines be VQA wines from Niagara. After that, he began receiving numerous inquiries from passionate Niagara winery owners about his involvement in a winery and an idea began to take shape. After he and his wife founded the Mike Weir Foundation to help children, the idea that a winery could help raise funds and awareness came together and he launched his first wines in April 2005. Since then, Mike Weir Winery has furthered the cause of Canadian and Niagara wines throughout his travels and became a powerful brand name in the Niagara region.
Niagara: A Wine Lover's Mecca "With my Niagara roots I watched with interest as the Niagara wine industry started to get recognized around the world for its wines...Bricia (his wife) and I entertain a lot at our home and I love to bring my wines out. Not so much to promote them but to watch people's faces when they find out they're from Canada and the Niagara Peninsula...I'm very proud to be able to further the cause of Canadian and Niagara wines through my travel and the many opportunities that are afforded me." - Mike Weir, Owner, Mike Weir Wine Text from www.mikeweirwine.com.
