NEDC Receives Two More Provincial Marketing Awards in the Field of Economic Development

The Ontario Economic Development Awards took place at the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre Hotel on February 3, and the Niagara Economic Development Corporation (NEDC) won two marketing awards for 2010. The annual awards competition, hosted by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO), recognizes the highest calibre of marketing and promotion of communities for new business growth and investment.  This is the second consecutive year that the NEDC has received industry recognition for its marketing programs and activities, having won two EDCO awards last year as well.
 
“Over 146 entries were judged,” stated 2011 EDCO President Kathy Weiss. “The competition allows local communities to see just how their economic development initiatives compare to other municipalities when it comes to promoting location, investment and tourism opportunities.”  Expert judges reviewed all of the entries that covered everything from promotional brochures to infrastructure development projects.   
 
“Once again NEDC is pleased to be recognized as best in class in the field of economic development,” stated Guy Graveline, Director of Economic Development and Marketing for NEDC.  “This latest competition result further demonstrates our effectiveness in marketing Niagara Canada as a unique and attractive global location for business.” 
 
The 2010 EDCO marketing awards were presented to NEDC for the following:
 
Establishment of Economic Development Microsites for Local Municipalities.  NEDC worked closely with local Mayors and their staff to develop economic development microsites for seven of Niagara’s municipalities that do not have economic development offices.  Each website provides a comprehensive community profile highlighting economic development information, business opportunities, insights, and characteristics that define each municipality and its unique place within Niagara.  See NEDC Microsites
 
Second Edition of the Niagara Wind Energy Supply Chain Directory. This directory provides key, valuable information on 46 companies across Niagara who are part of the emerging wind energy supply chain for Niagara or have the capacity to supply component parts or services. EDCO is the country’s largest provincial economic development association with a membership close to 600 that come from the private and public sector.
