THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF NIAGARA DEVELOPMENT CHARGES

New growth and the redevelopment of land results in increased demand for new services and for
upgrading or expanding existing services. The Regional Development Charge (R.D.C.) is a way of
recovering the cost of capital expenditures attributable to this growth. Therefore, Regional
Council has enacted Regional Development Charges By-law No. 90-2004 for services in the following
amounts:

The Regional Development Charge is calculated and collected for development that requires the issuance of a building permit in relation to a) residential use in a residential building or mixed-use building; b) a non-residential use in a non-residential use in a non-residential builing or mixed-use building.
Important Notices:
1. A development charge shall not include a charge in respect of water or wastewater where those services are not available.
2.  Some local municipalities have an additional development fee. Please check with the local municipality in which you propose to build prior to making application in order to determine the total development charge applicable.”
