BROCK UNIVERSITY'S CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMS OFFICE
Brock's Co-op Programs Office offers a perfect solution to addressing
staffing issues related to temporary assignments or even the long-term

The Institute for Enterprise Education (IEE) is an independent non-profit body that works in partnership with Brock University, Human Resources Skills Development and other organizations engaged in the development of an enterprising culture. The Institute is also a partner with a number of individuals and institutions nationally and internationally who are engaged in the research, design, and delivery of curriculum in the field of Enterprise Education.

Results of IEE’s Research into business and behaviours is incorporated into the design of IEE’s programs which are outlined below.

Programs/Services

Youth Entrepreneurship Program – A 26-week program for youth who wish to become self-reliant through start-up of own business. Focus is on self-assessment, teamwork on a community project, creativity and problem solving, finance, marketing, and developing a business plan.

 

3R Program (Renew, Regenerate, Refocus) – A  13-day program for unemployed individuals over 35 designed to help them refocus on their future career direction, using self-assessment and  confidence building techniques.

New Orientation to Self-Employment (NOSE) –  A 3-day program for individuals interested in attaining financial independence.  Participants explore whether self-employment or traditional employment is best for them to achieve personal objectives.

Bachelor of Education, Enterprise Education Program – A 10-month program offered in partnership with Brock University’s, Faculty of Education, as an alternate pre-service teacher education program at the secondary level which seeks to connect schooling and teaching with the community.

Canadian Youth Business Foundation Loans (CYBF) – The Institute for Enterprise Education is the Niagara area co-ordinator for CYBF Loans.  CYBF provides business loans of up to $15,000 to young people between the ages of 18 – 34 to cover start-up costs of your business, and also has a mandatory mentoring program.

The Niagara College Business Development Centre was established to foster the growth of the entrepreneurial spirit and to support the formation of small business enterprises within the Niagara region. The Centre's main strengths are its flexibility and its willingness to listen to people with new ideas. It provides the guidance, encouragement and solid know-how to help fledgling entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams.

Successful entrepreneurs are absolutely indispensable as advisors, mentors or consultants to individuals who are starting or operating a small business. A highly qualified network of entrepreneurs offers advice, experience and counsel to assist business development.

The Centre's staff has developed a user-friendly resource centre with many computerized research packages, databases, trade indexes, journals, books and articles. These materials are available to all participants involved in the Centre's programs.

Programs

Self Employment Benefit Program
Offered in partnership with Human Resources Development Canada, this program offers training and income support through the first year of business to individuals who qualify. For further details, information sessions are held every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Glendale Campus.

Small Business Fundamentals Program
To help assess your business idea and create your business plan, this three-week in-class program offers the key elements in business start-up and operation. This program is sponsored by Human Resources Development Canada for individuals who qualify.

The Enterprising Edge On Line
Created by Niagara College in partnership with the Eastbridge Group, Waterloo , this program is offered in-class or on-line, using computer and web-based support. The curriculum, recognized by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities offers prospective entrepreneurs a guide to starting and running a business. It has been tested and proven effective in enterprise centres and classrooms throughout Southern Ontario.

Ontario Works Self-employment Development Program
For those receiving social assistance, this program provides training, seminars and personal mentoring throughout the first year of business start-up.

The Niagara Enterprise Agency provides assistance to growing companies. This includes facilitating the acquisition of critical resources such as capital, knowledge and human resources as well as providing community collaboration and networking among key business, education and government sources.

The Niagara Canada Community Investment Plan (NCCIP)
The NCCIP plays a vital role in helping businesses with high-growth potential to find the financing they need to get established or expand. NCCIP's associates provide coaching expertise to make business plans investment-ready, carry out due diligence and bring together potential investors with those seeking capital. Niagara's CCIP has become the MOST successful of 21 such programs across the country, securing financing for a variety of companies and initiatives such as Mitech Plastics in Welland. The Village new urbanism development in Niagara-on-the Lake and $12.5 million in investment funding for phase 1 of Niagara Under Glass, an agri-tourism project in Lincoln.
The Niagara Growth Fund (NGF)
The Niagara Growth Fund, launched in October 1999, is a multimillion dollar venture capital fund designed to help small businesses in the Niagara Region reach their potential. Beginning at %5.5 million but expected to grow to $10 million, the NGF is the FIRST such community-sponsored fund of its kind in Canada. The fund is looking for equity investments in Niagara businesses.
The Niagara Intelligence Acquisition Service (NIAS)
NIAS provides a host of competitive intelligence services to existing companies and new ventures, allowing them to seize opportunities in a timely manner and to take steps against threats before they appear. The services include assessing a particular market for entry, monitoring markets at home and abroad for emerging trends, investigating companies for potential mergers or acquisitions, probing rumors regarding a company's new market entrance, monitoring legislative changes to determine how they will affect a company and investigating patents and licensable technology.
The Niagara Virtual Business Accelerator
The NEW service provides a host of critical resources that firms rely on to grow, including research and development, business intelligence, mentoring and export development.
